Home Energy Audits

When you hire Go Green Energy Consulting, our certified energy auditors will thoroughly evaluate the energy use in your home. Here is an overview of some of the things we do, including thermal imaging analysis, blower door testing, indoor air quality testing and overall energy use analysis. Our finished product is a report that we deliver to each customer with recommendations on energy savings and weatherization upgrades for the home. From there we work with the homeowner to  manage the upgrades and help them claim the maximum rebate and tax credit available.

Thermal imaging

A thermal image will show exactly where energy escapes through gaps in insulation and windows. Images will be taken of the attic and all exterior walls of a home.

Our energy auditors use thermography—or infrared technology—to detect thermal defects inside and outside of homes. Thermography measures surface temperatures by using infrared photography or video. These tools allow the human eye to see light that is in the heat spectrum, showing warm regions as white/red and cooler areas black/blue.

The images can be used to record the temperature variations of the building’s outer surfaces. The resulting images help the auditor determine whether additional insulation is needed. They also serve as a quality control tool, to ensure that insulation has been installed correctly. A thermographic inspection can also be done within a home’s interior. Thermal images of electrical systems can detect abnormally hot electrical connections or components. Thermal images of mechanical systems can detect the heat created by excessive friction.

The solid concrete lower wall, insulated on both the outside and inside, shows good uniformity without hot spots or thermal bridges.

Blower Door tests show where air leaks are in the building

Blower Door tests show where air leaks are in the building

Blower door testing

This test helps to identify air leakage, moisture condensation problems, and contamination caused by indoor air pollution.

A blower door is a powerful fan that mounts into the frame of an exterior door. The fan pulls air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. As a result, the higher outside air pressure flows in through the home’s unsealed cracks and openings. Then the auditors use an instrument to detect air leaks. These tests determine the air infiltration rate of the structure.

Once the leaks are identified, the areas should be caulked or resealed to help maintain proper insulation in your home.

Indoor Air Quality Testing

CO meter

Your family’s safety is our #1 concern. That is why we test for carbon monoxide and combustible gas leaks as part of our standard home energy audit. This is one of the most important tests that we do which is not necessarily for energy savings but addresses potential safety and health issues related to air quality in the home.

Current Energy Use Survey

No one knows your home quite like you! We use a comprehensive survey to identify where energy is used inefficiently throughout your home. We then suggest simple changes you can make to your everyday behavior that can yield major energy savings!

Rebate/Tax Credit Assessment:

There are many ways to receive money back from the government for making energy improvements to your home. These programs can be a bit confusing if you have never encountered them before. Don’t fret! After analyzing your home, we will identify exactly which government rebates and tax credits you qualify for. Then, we even fill out the paperwork for you and ensure everything is submitted properly.
