Funding from DOE Helps Universities Train Next Generation of EE Experts!

United States Department of Energy (DOE) has allocated more than $30 million for 24 Universities across the nation to train both undergraduate and graduate students in manufacturing energy efficiency. Each school will receive between $200,000 to $300,000 per year for up to 5 years to help universities with practical training on core energy management concepts through DOE’s successful Industrial Assessment Center program. New EE Standards from Fridges

New energy efficiency standards for home refrigerators and freezers have recently been issued by the DOE and will improve efficiency by about 25% by 2014. The new standards will save the typical consumer $200 for over the lifetime of the refrigerator, and are expected to make fridges happier across the nation (as pictured above). Nationally, consumers are expected to save more than $21 billion through 2043.
Pitch for Detroit – Team GGEC Champions!
This past Sunday, hundreds of players and spectators gathered at Inglenook Park in Southfield for “Pitch for Detroit,” a charity softball tournament. The event was hosted by Community Next, an organization focused on keeping young people in Michigan, and proceeds from the tournament will support that same cause. Go Green Energy Consulting was proud to sponsor a team at the event, and even more proud that WE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!

MPG Labels for Homes!?

Some home builders have begun putting energy performance labels on new houses. The labels will tell consumers how much money they should expect to pay each month in utilities and electricity, kind of like the miles per gallon (MPG) rating for cars.

President Obama Visits Michigan-Based Advanced Battery Plant This Thursday
President Barack Obama will be in Michigan this week to visit an advanced battery plant. The lucky, Holland-based facility is home of Johnson Controls, a developer of advanced batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. The plant, which was developed with federal government support, is expect to eventually create 300 jobs.

Study Shows: In-Home Displays Reduce Wasteful Behavior
The results of a 500 participant survey were released today from a smart meter In-Home Display pilot program that started last fall. The program installed meters in homes, which displayed their energy consumption behavior instantly on an In-Home display. The survey boasted great results, with a 93% satisfaction with the displays. There was also a decrease in energy usage by the participants. 83% reported turning off lights that weren’t in use, and 51% reported adjusting their thermostat temperature. The survey goes to show that pinpointing where and when people are wasting energy will result in less energy used and more money saved.
